About

Therapy helps you navigate life’s challenges.
The thought of seeking therapy can seem scary, but the results far outweigh any fear you might initially have.
My goal is to create a safe space where you can be authentically yourself, free from judgment, with a focus on your needs.
Our work together is a partnership that identifies the issues and initiates a plan to help you heal and grow past the challenges you face.
There will be challenges, but with persistence, consistency, follow-through, and trust in the process, you will gain the confidence and ability to move forward.

My approach depends on your needs.
Some of my clients deal with trauma. For some, like first responders, active-duty military, and veterans, trauma is an ongoing reality. In some cases, the experiences can lead to PTSD.
Other clients are dealing with past trauma, some related to childhood experiences. Methods like Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and mindfulness practices are helpful.
Aside from working with trauma, I also work with clients recovering from painful relationships with narcissists, couples issues, other difficulties in relationships, stress, and anxiety.
My therapeutic approach draws on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), vagus nerve reset techniques for anxiety, mindfulness practices, and somatic therapy. After we identify the issues you bring, we will devise the best approach for you.
Through recent training in polyvagal theory and Somatic Therapy, I have learned techniques that current clients are finding helpful in reducing anxiety and depression.
It goes without saying that an individual considering therapy for the first time may be somewhat apprehensive. My goal is to create a safe space for you to share whatever is on your mind or in your heart.
You are welcome to express your thoughts, feelings, and experiences knowing that you will be met with empathy and understanding, not judgment. This is your space to explore and process anything you wish to share, at your own pace.
About Susan McGilloway, LCPC

Experience and training guide my approach.
I received my M.S. degree in Psychology from Walden University in Minneapolis, MN, in 2012. Currently, I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC), licensed to practice in Maryland, Virginia, and Ohio.
With over 12 years of experience in inpatient and outpatient treatment, I have encountered a diversity of clients dealing with stress, trauma, and other issues.
Before earning my master’s degree and state license, I worked as a career counselor for GED and ESL students at a community college. That experience opened my eyes to the unique challenges immigrants face as they build a new life in the United States – and deepened my commitment to helping people navigate change with confidence.
What’s life like outside of work?
When I’m not working, you’ll likely find me in Maryland with Coco, my spirited rescue beagle. We love exploring local parks, soaking up fresh air, and turning ordinary walks into little adventures.
